A Bizarre, Long and Mostly Slow Car Chase in LA Finally Ends

A car thief suspect led Los Angeles police on one of the longest and most bizarre car chases in recent memory.

You can watch some of the chase which lasted some 90 minutes, with the suspect driving slowly, stopping, dancing the ledge of the car and peeling donuts on rims that etched circles in the middle of an LA intersection.
Shortly afterwards, the police finally made a successful pit, sending the car into a median. With helicopters above, the suspect leaped out of the car and down on his stomach where police secured and hog-tied the suspect.

For almost one and a half hours, the unknown male suspect led police all around Los Angeles while gesturing at the police and at one point sitting out on the car window ledge apparently dancing to music. The suspect also threw papers and trash out of the window during most of the chase.

Even after one of several attempted pits by the police unhinged the back bumper of the stolen Nissan car, and after all four tires were spiked, the crazed suspect continued driving erratically around surface streets throughout LA, at times with crowds waving him on. Some citizens could be seen throwing objects at the car.

Local TV station KCAL9 commentators said the slow moving chase that included nearly a dozen police cars reminded them of the infamous O.J. Simpson car chase of 1995.

Finally, police were successful with a fifth pit attempt. The shirtless suspect simply jumped out of the car and on to his stomach in a common police ordered position. After such a bizarre chase, it is rare to see a suspect not at least attempt to run.
No word of if the suspect was on drugs, but his behavior suggests that may have been the case, or that the man is suffering from mental problems.

Breaking News: Originally reported Friday 2:30pm EST. Last updated on Saturday at 12:30am EST.

This is the second major security breach of a NASA employee in four months. Who can forget the diaper-wearing astronut who drove 900 and some miles to confront another female astronaut in a love triangle with a male astronaut.

MTB News believes it has obtained another photograph
in addition to the one shown here on the right which was published in The
Houston Chronicle. If we confirmed the validity of the other photograph, it will be published on this page.

Police in Houston have reported that a NASA engineering contractor William A. Phillips, 60, shot and killed himself after killing one male hostage, who has been identified as David Beverly, a 25-year veteran employee of NASA.

At approximately 1:45 pm EST, police received information that the gunman had barricaded himself and taken hostages inside Building 44 on the campus of NASA's world-famous Johnson Space Center.

The gunman's neighbor, Mike Russell, told a local TV station that Phillip's was an "ordinary nice guy that lived down the street" adding that he could have never imagined Phillip's committing such a terrible act.

"I waved to him this morning", Russell said.
Watch video

After the call went out this afternoon, the Houston tactical SWAT team entered the building at approximately 5:25 pm EST.

Moments later, SWAT members heard a single gunshot and rushed to where they believed the shot came from.

There they found Phillips dead from a reported single gunshot wound to the head and the body of David Beverly with a gunshot to the chest.

Police said they believe Beverly was shot an hour or longer before the gunman committed suicide.

However, there are no reports yet about what was going on for the nearly three hours that Phillips was barricaded.

A female NASA contractor, Fran Crenshaw, was bound with duct tape, officials say, but was physically unharmed and released from hospital after a medical evaluation.

Dozens of employees could be seen from aerial views leaving Building 44 on the Johnson Space Center's sprawling 1,600-acre campus. Houston police, including a SWAT team, responded to calls that shots were fired at the space station headquarters and responded to the scene at approximately 2 pm EST.

The coroner's office and homicide investigators have roped off the crime scene to examine the bodies and attempt to piece together exactly what happened during the gunman's reign of terror at what should be one of the most secure facilities in the world.

More details as they develop, including official statements, more about the gunman and the victim, the relationship of the two, how security was breached at a "secure facility" and a timeline of events. (Is there something in the Tang?)

An unidentified female student at Virginia Tech University in Blacksburg, Virginia, told CNN that she had received 'creepy' instant messages from Cho Seung Hui more than a year ago.

The student was so shaken, she reported the incident to police at the time. However, the student is still too shocked to talk about the instant messages to reporters at this time.

Other reports from the Associated Press claim that two female students were apparently intimidated and harassed by Cho and filed complaints with the authorities.

In 2005, Cho was subsequently declared by a Virginia court to be an "imminent danger to himself." But apparently, there were no follow-ups to check on Cho's condition, leaving Cho extremely vulnerable to what appeared to be a severe mental illness.

However, the extent of Cho's preparation and premeditation for the massacre suggests he was not only a sociopath, but may have suffered from schizophrenia, a severe paranoid condition that can be effectively treated with medications.

CNN reported that Cho wrote instant messages (shown in bold at the end of this article) to the female student, but failed to mention that the words come from Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, Scene II - Capulet's Orchard :

Note: To put Cho Seung Hui's alleged instant messages to the female student into context, here is a portion of the Capulet's Orchard scene with the bold lettering showing what Cho reportedly instant messaged.

JULIET

'Tis but thy name that is my enemy;
Thou art thyself, though not a Montague.
What's Montague? it is nor hand, nor foot,
Nor arm, nor face, nor any other part

Belonging to a man. O, be some other name!
What's in a name? that which we call a rose
By any other name would smell as sweet;
So Romeo would, were he not Romeo call'd,
Retain that dear perfection which he owes
Without that title. Romeo, doff thy name,
And for that name which is no part of thee
Take all myself.

ROMEO
I take thee at thy word:
Call me but love, and I'll be new baptized;
Henceforth I never will be Romeo.

JULIET
What man art thou that thus bescreen'd in night
So stumblest on my counsel?

ROMEO
By a name
I know not how to tell thee who I am:
My name, dear saint, is hateful to myself,
Because it is an enemy to thee;
Had I it written, I would tear the word. *

Pressing Questions:

1. Why was Cho not committed after a Virginia judge declared him an "imminent danger to himself."

2. Why did it take so long to inform students of the first shooting?

3. Why wasn't the campus locked down until the "first" shooter was not in custody?

...and the list goes on (more questions will be posted as more students respond - right now many are still in shock and mourning)

Cho Seung-Hui's Multimedia Manifesto; Why Were Warning Signs Ignored?

Did The Legal, Mental Health and Academic Bureaucracies Let Go a Ticking Time Bomb?

Cho Seung was declared an "imminent danger to himself and others" by a Virginia judge in December 2005

“I didn’t have to do this,” Cho said in his creepy video sent to NBC News. “I could have left. I could have fled. But no, I will no longer run."

Video of Box Cho Mailed to NBC News - updated at 11:38 p.m. EST

Apparently, Cho Seung Hui mailed a package to NBC News between the two shootings containing images, writings, videos and other materials. (photo on left from high school yearbook)

Stay tuned for more about the package contents. See video discussion about the Cho Seung Hu-NBC News mailed box.

The package, although other contradictory reports said it was a box, contained long ramblings from an obviously agitated young man.

NBC News said the package contained “rambling, manifesto-like statement embedded with a series of photographs with writings that were “hard-to-follow ... disturbing, very disturbing — very angry, profanity-laced.”

Cho goes on with his angry rambling blaiming society for his behavior. All of the signs were there before Monday that Cho Seung Hui (there are variations of spellings and order of Korean names) was a threat to himself and others:

The stalking complaints. The professor who notified authorities of his writings. Cho Seung Hu's withdrawn behavior. The freaky poetry Cho read, which reportedly caused almost an entire class not to return.

But more revealing then all is the fact that a Virginia judge ordered Cho to a mental health facility proclaiming from all the evidence presented that Cho was an "imminent danger to others." That was 2005! There were also, of course, his disturbing plays, "Mr. Brownstone" and "Richard McBeef".

But according to his dorm mates, Cho did not show any signs of anger or threats to them. They never saw any guns nor did they even know that he had a video camera. The dorm mates claim Cho never talked, so they assumed he was just shy, even though attempts were made to socialize with him.

Police Not Ruling Out Second Shooter; Cho Seung Huis' Disturbing Plays Released by AOL Employee

Police officials in Blacksburg, Viriginia, have ruled out the possibility that there was not a second shooter. Investigations, they say, are on-going.

The suspected gunman in the worst mass murder in American history, Cho Seung Hui, a 23-year-old student, showed many signs of a very troubled person before the massacre.

Here are links to two of the plays that Seung Cho wrote, "Richard McBeef" and "Mr. Brownstone".

Hui was an English major. This material contains graphic material and disturbing imagery:

Play One - Richard McBeef - by Seung Cho

Play Two - Mr. Brownstone - by Seung Cho

Virginia Tech and other officials have released the first list of confirmed victims' names, all of whom have had their next-of-kin notified.

Stay tuned to this website for continuously updated reports, plus profiles of the Virginia Tech shooting victims.

Regular updates with complete coverage are updated throughout the day at the Virginia Tech Massacre
links and resources page (last updated on Friday, April 20, 2007 at 6:35 p.m. EST).

One of the victims was engineering science and mathematics professor Liviu Librescu, who was 76 years old. But he was much more than that. He is everything you would admire from a teacher and person, his students and fellow professors said.

He is also a geniune hero. Mr. Librescu survived the holocaust, but he gave his life on Monday to save the lives of his students.

As Cho Seung Hui tried to enter the classroom, Librescu held the door shut with his body as long as he could, allowing numerous students to jump out the windows, saving their lives. Seconds later, Librescu was shot through the door in the back and died on the scene. There is a special place in heaven for this amazing man.

Ironically, Librescu died on Holocaust Remembrance Day. His life not only served as an example of a man who survived Hitler's holocaust while a teen in Romania, came to the United States via Israel and went on to teach students at Virginia Tech University in Blacksburg, Virginia, but it also shows how far some teachers will go to protect their students.

Librescu gave his students guidance and knowledge to succeed in life and they will hopefully carry on in his memory and promote humanity in times of unspeakable human cruelty around the world. I never knew you, sir, but I feel like I do. You are an American Hero.

Also, why were the doors locked in Norris Hall? Apparently, that's why students were jumping from the windows. (This will be updated as facts come in.)

Digging The Archives: XFiles Spin-Off Writers Saw 911 Before The Rest of Us?

If Rosie O'Donnell would zip it and instead use her ill-gotten soap box to ask questions that are not based on idiotic, paranoid delusions and stupid rants about a conspiracy for everything under the sun, she might want to watch this clip, if she hasn't seen it already.

This might be old news to some, but fellow bloggers have been buzzing again about this clip that is six years old.

Probably like many of you, I was unaware of this particular precursor to 9/11 that appears to predict the 9-11 attacks on the World Trade Centers on Sept. 11, 2001.

The Lone Gunman, a X-Files spin-off TV series, aired a pilot show on FOX on March 4, 2001.

The theme of the pilot was based on a story of 747's being hijacked to be used as flying bombs to attack the World Trade Center, eerily similar to the attacks that took place six months later.

This video is a clip from the pilot itself.

WARNING: Anyone affected by what happened on that day may not want to watch this not because it contains inappropriate material, but because it is such a chilling precursor to 9/11.

Keith Richards Snorted His Father's Ashes with Cocaine

One of the world's most famous rock guitarists, Keith Richards of The Rolling Stones, has never tried to hide the fact that he did lots of cocaine and other drugs, like heroin, for many years. He almost single-handedly put the drugs behind the rock motto "sex, drugs and rock and roll."

Claiming now to be drug-free, Richards said he once mixed some of his father's ashes with cocaine and snorted it.

"The strangest thing I've tried to snort? My father. I snorted my father," Richards, 63, told the British music magazine NME on April 2nd. His father, Bert Richards, died in 2002 at the age of 84.

"He was cremated and I couldn't resist grinding him up with a little bit of blow. My dad wouldn't have cared. ... It went down pretty well, and I'm still alive."

The photograph of Mr. Richard's senior (courtesy of Rock Junket) shows Keith's Dad backstage a year before his death and subsequent cremation.

Something tells me this is a late April Fool's joke, or maybe Richards doesn't know what he put up his nose.

Google Goes Down the Toilet with Wireless Broadband; Users Report Visits from Cartman, Disappearing Mooninites and mini-Shreks

Google is the world's most visited website, but today they put themselves in the toilet.

But Google is already reporting approximately 24,000 new subscribers have ordered their new and revolutionary (some would say disgusting) wireless routers for free broadband service.

Offering a free broadband service called TiSP, Google says that by lowering a wireless Google-made router into a toilet, users can link their computers' to fiber-optic nodes through existing sewer pipes.
While most pre-odor customers have experienced problems with configuring the device, others are reporting some strange incidents.
There are at least 13 reports of the devices themselves coming back up through their toilets transformed as mooninites and various characters from the popular hit TV show South Park, most particularly the intrepid and vulgar Cartman.

"Respect my authoritaaahhhh, you piece of S*IT!, screw you!" Cartman was quoted as telling a Los Angeles Google TiSP subscriber Willy Nilly. Nilly received his new device today from UPS as a pre-odor.

"Hey!!! Flush me back down before I kick your ass," Cartman told Nilly shortly before the L.A. doughnut baker pushed him back down into the toilet and flushed.

As Cartman was being flushed down he could be heard screaming: "TiSP, my ass! Timmmieeeeee!!! Tim-mahhheee, Timmah!!"
At press time, there are no confirmed reports as to the whereabouts of other mooninites and South Park characters.

The producers of South Park expect that on Monday people will be asking:
"Who killed Kenny?"
So far, there are no reported sightings of Kenny, and his current whereabouts are unknown.
Rosie O'Donnell, the new and controversial spokesperson for Comedy Central's parent company Viacom, said: "We don't know were the f*ck Kenny nor Cartman are right now, blah, blah, blah.
"I wouldn't be surprised if they have been taken by Donald Trump's security detail to some undisclosed location outside the United States. The Bush administration, I'm telling you, is behind this, just like they are behind every other criminal and covert conspiracy you can think of."
(Last week the constently constipated and moronic tycoon Donald Trump, watched in horror, along with millions of viewers worldwide, as his hair piece blew off his head during a windy, outdoor press conference for the ground-breaking of a new Trump Towers edition. Trump ran off camera chasing his hair piece down 5th Avenue.)
There have been scattered reports from some TiSP users who claim that after "installing" the router, mini-Shreks and mooninites were jumping out their toilets and vanishing in thin air.

Google executives said they will hold a press conference tomorrow to brief the public on the devices that appear to be attracting strange characters into subscribers' toilets.

But one Google source that wished to remain anonymous said: "We never really thought that characters from South Park and various mooninites would be attracted to the devices, but there were some engineers who hinted that this could be a problem."
