UK Man Wants Compensation for Impending Death Spending Spree
A British man who was told by doctors that he only had months to live went on a spending spree thinking his final days were almost up. Two years ago, John Brandrick, 62, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and told that he would likely die within a year, according to Sky News. With limited time to live, Brandrick quit his job, gave away or sold nearly all his possessions - except for the suit he planned to be buried in - spent his savings on dining and travel and ceased making his mortgage payments. A year later Brandrick was told he did not have a tumor but simply a non-life threatening inflammation of his pancreas.
"When they tell you you've got a limited time and everything, you do enjoy life," Brandrick, from Cornwall in the west of England, told Sky television.
"I'm really pleased that I've got a second chance in life... but if you haven't got no money after all this, which is my fault -- I spent it all -- they should pay something back."
Brandrick says that he may sell his home or sue the hospital that misdiagnosed his condition. The hospital stated that in reviewing the case, the diagnosis would not have been different. Not dying is a good thing, but living is hard without money. While he is free of cancer, the man with the inflamed pancreas is flat out broke.
